I really like the shortcut setup of softimage, but It doesn't need to be the same, just the ideia.
My suggestion would be something like:
- 1 ,2, 3, 4 and 5 for object, vertex, edge, face, multi selection (Function keys are very distant for fast modeling)
In Face Modeling:
- extrude: ctrl +d (extrude is some kind of duplicating de face)
- duplicate: ctrl +shift+ d (extrude is used more often than duplicate
- insert : ctrl + alt + d (extrude , insert and duplicate are actually 3 ways of 'duplicating' a face)
- bevel : ctrl + b
- bridge: ctrl + shift + b
- flip: ctrl + i or ctrl+f ( i for invert)
- detach: ctrl + e ( d'e'tach , or e for extract)
- cut plane : ctrl + L
- slice plane: ctrl +shift + L

- select ring :ctrl + click on adjacent face (is there this feature?)
In Edge Modeling:
- extrude: ctrl +d
- bevel: ctrl + b (is this missing?)
- bridge: ctrl + shift + b
- select edge loop: double click
- select ring : ctrl + double click or ctrl + click on parallel edge
In Vertex Modeling:
- weld: ctrl +w
- select ring :ctrl + click on adjacent vertex (is there this feature?)
General:
- grow selection : shift + "=" (same key for plus "+" on keyboard)
- shrink selection : shift + "-"
- invert selection : ctrl + shift + i
Here is some suggestions! Hope you consider it! I see there still some important tools missing, I hope some of them get implemented over time.
